I’m tossing around the idea to stop tracking my food for a week or two to see if I can maintain (better yet continue to lose) without logging everything I eat. This is a way of life for me going forward and I don’t want to have to rely on logging daily but actually living this way naturally making the right choices. I’ve never been a big eater so portions are not my issue, it’s just the carbs and sugars which I believe I’ve finally gotten ahold of. I would be interested to hear from you all if you’ve done this yet and your challenges and/or successes. Thanks!

That's a maintenance thing. You've still got 17 to go. Why not stick with what is working? Let's go! #stillgrindtime #getserious #stayhungry #alwaysdiet #mindset

I am with jimmiepop. Keeping track is a tool, a help to keep you on course. I personally would keep tracking.

Depends on your preferences, if tracking what you eat is stressful, causing problems, or making things harder, than not tracking may be better. If tracking is helping you keep consistent progress, make sure you don’t overeat etc. then maybe stick with it.

I did. I failed. It’s so easy to slip into it’s only one taste here or there. For me, those uncounted tastes added up. I gained back 1/2 the weight I lost. It took a few years, but still. For me, journaling is as much a part of the new lifestyle as the food. You may have better control.

it is one of those things that is hard to advise someone else, you learned by tracking your food and measuring. You learned to avoid food that you know piles on the weight. so If you are already good at portion control and think you can avoid the pitfalls without documenting try it for a couple weeks. If you find that you don't get off track good, but if the tracking tends to help you avoid those pitfalls you may have to start back.

I agree, if you're ready. I'm still in training mode :) My goal is to learn all the portion sizes so I don't have to log in the future.

Whenever I stop tracking, I gain. It holds me accountable for what I put in my mouth. I start to rationalize eating this and that and convince myself it won’t make much difference but that is a very slippery slope. Best of luck to you! Whatever you decide

If you don't log...then you don't know... in the forward.. then , if you go the wrong way...how will you pin point the cause ?

I haven't kept a log in months and I have done just fine. I just watch my calories and sugar intake and some carbs. I just don't eat that much. I've lost 103 lbs in 8.5 months. I wish you the best.

I find that at this point, I can do a lot of "mental tracking" cuz I have used the same basic daily menus for so long. However - I get stuck on a plateau and bandy about the same 5 lbs when I don't use my food diary; when I do, I start to lose weight again. If I'm serious about making progress, I log 🤗✌️

Logging helps me because this data allows me to make decisions on what is really happening not how I want things to be :)

My preferred way is to step on the scale every morning, to see what effect yesterday had on my weight and sense of well being. While having my coffee, I reflect on what I ate yesterday. At plateau, I sometimes do a calorie count of what I eat, to see if that is the reason. I know the fact, that fat burning is rapidly blocked by carb consumption, so I avoid those. Carbs destroy the body, so they're gone for good for me. I know too much fat consumption slow down body fat burning. Food from factories can not be trusted. With this philosophy I hammer on without frequent food tracking. At times I wish I would track more, but I do not. If you track, you have more useful info to lern from.

Good luck! Eventually I want to be able to give up logging, but need to wait until maintenance. Personally, if I don't log, I eat too much. It keeps me accountable. But if you don't have a problem with portion control you might be okay. You'll know soon enough.

I totally recommend it. I knew I had finally "made it" when I could maintain without a food log. It only works with low carb for me personally (Keto). If I'm eating carbs I immediately gain weight if I'm not tracking everything. The only time my judgement is correct and I don't get lots of munchies is when I'm eating high fat/ low carb. Crossing my fingers for you! 😃

Haven’t ever logged and it’s worked for me. But, I’m not following a diet where I have to keep track of fat vs protein vs cards. I simply count calories and do it in my head. I also weigh every morning to see where I’m at.

My memory is not good enough to run a tally in my head. I log everything or I'd forget or calculate it wrong in my head. I need to log calories and carbs. Carbs are the main thing since I have to balance them with my insulin injections.
