I know what you mean about unconscious eating. It's my downfall as well. I don't know if this will help you along in your journey, but I'm reading a book by Eckhart Tolle, called A New Earth-awakening to your life's purpose. It's an Oprah book club selection. It talks about being aware of your life- your relationship with yourself, with others, and I've applied it to my relationship with food. It's helped me. It might be something that could help you.

You said it yourself, "the moment I am off I go back to mindless eating." There's your answer. You can't "go back" to your old way of eating - ever! To make this permanent, we have to change our habits and how we deal with food. The old lifestyle is what got us fat and kept us there. Out with the old and in with the new!
