Here's something interesting I've noticed: Every day, late afternoon or early evening, I start thinking about sweets. I started wondering why I don't crave them the rest of the time. Because - given my affection for sugar and my semi-spiritual relationship with cake - you'd think I would crave them all the time. But no, it's only late afternoon, early evening. So I figured out that's about when my energy crashes. That's when I usually finish my work for the day, too. I guess I've been using sugar and carbs to repair that energy deficit.

Any other ideas for what to do for the 5 p.m. crash? Aside from take a two-hour nap, which is what I do if I don't eat sugar.

Also worth noting, especially for anyone taking thyroid hormone, is that I became clearly hyperthyroid last week. Sometimes it's easy to confuse being hyperthyroid with just being in a really terrible mood. Only the mood lasts for days and the one day you wake up and your heart is pounding and beating 120 beats per minute. So, if you have a thyroid issue and you're losing weight, know your symptoms and be ready to change your dose as needed. I feel so much better after four days on a lower dose.

Hey Miss E! Your doing awesome. I broke out laughing with your spiritual relationship with cake comment. I am going through a cake break up as I type :-) All I can suggest is a protein snack. Maybe a light yogurt, or small tuna salad like thing. I have the evening cravings, and when I was on a roll, doing well, I would have a light yogurt (sometimes two) and it curbed the drive to drive to Mcdonalds :-)

Isn't cake the best? Every year at Christmas I make a chocolate-cinnamon babka, which is a very rich Czech cake. This year I want to make it, even though I'm dieting, so instead of using my twelve-cup bundt pan, I bought a mini-bundt pan and will just make a little one for my family. Compromises, compromises. Your protein suggestion is sound, but with these shakes I'm on, I already average about a hundred grams of protein a day. I'm think that I might talk to my doctor about going back on medicine for my narcolepsy. Just a little dose of something so I can function in the evening. We'll see what he thinks. My last narco med messed with my sleep.
