I could use some advice from anyone that has had thyroid issues. I don’t have a thyroid anymore and my levels can get a little wacky sometimes. I’m sure the doc will help me get the synthroid dosage right, but in the meantime, I’m really trying to lose the extra weight. The challenge is that with being hypothyroid currently, I have to keep the calories really low even to just keep from gaining. If anyone has dealt with this and has any thoughts/ suggestions, I would appreciate it!

I only know from my mom (goiter) that you need to find an optimum prescription for your overall health and well being, not just weight loss. Multiple issues can develop, including miscarriage or unhealthy babies among those trying for children. My brother was conceived 12 years after me, not long after mom started on ‘thyroid medicine’, and was much healthier than I was. Multiple miscarriages during the 12 years.

Hi Tom! Thanks for the information and support. Thankfully, I’m done having babies (I’ll be turning 47 next month) so that’s less of a concern for me. But yeah, I’d like to be healthy in general. I have a dr appointment next week so I’ll def talk to her about the thyroid levels. I appreciate the response! 😊

I have never known anyone without a thyroid. I have had thyroid problems and I too have hypothyroidism. Well, last year I ended up in the hospital for a week unable to walk. They adjusted my thyroid medication and I slowly started getting stronger. That little organ controls a lot of functions, even your heart. I know the synthetic medication they have is an exact match, it’s the dosage they need to stay on top of. I was off from work for a month and had to use a walker for 2 months. I was shocked how easy you can lose your ability to walk and what a precious blessing it is. I did lose tons of weight during this time and wanted to keep going and found FS and all the wonderful people on it!!!! I have been consistently loosing, but only an itsy-bitsy amount per day. I don’t exercise or diet, but I do fast. With the fasting I never go hungry for I have a time during the day, usually around lunch that I pretty much eat what I want, when I go back on the fast all it keeps me from doing is snacking here and there and that makes a major difference. Shrewdness, thanks for the response and for sharing yr experiences with thyroid issues. Do you mind me asking about what caused yr difficulty with walking? Was it the extra weight that came along with thyroid issues or something else? As for me, I had thyroid cancer a few years back so they had to remove it. I’ve been doing well (and cancer free so far now) other than still trying to get the levels right. It’s been a bit of a challenge, and trying to get any exercise in when I’m super tired hasn’t exactly been a huge success for me. I’ll keep working on it though. :)
