Debinator's Logboek, 14 mrt 11

Having a hard time with exercising - knee is not doing so hot the last month or so- had MRI friday to see what is up- Doc suspects a torn meniscus. Will find out Tuesday- (tomorrow) The knee gets sore when i walk for too long of a period (not much lately) so I guess I am confined to upper body workouts for now. Keeping fingers crossed that knee won't need to be scoped.

Oh no!!! Let's hope it is not a torn meniscus. Just rest it up for now.

the verdict is in- NO SURGERY!! Slight meniscus tear (more like frayed)and mild sprain to mcl, with some osteoarthritis. I can deal with this. The pain is very mild and is getting better every day. I should be back to normal in a couple of weeks. So for now I really have to watch those calories!

Hi Debinator! I came across your post & see you've managed to lose 7" off of your waist!!! Awesome! I am close to shape, age & size of you, and are wondering how you did that? My belly is my worst part and I want to lose 7" too! Sorry about your knee :)

Hi Amy, I am back in the swing of things the knee is healing nicely, thanks. I guess the way I lost the inches was to drink ALOT of water- eliminate soft drinks and sweet tea from my diet, and have a daily 500 calorie deficit. I could eat a little more on the days I really busted my butt like the days I worked out AND did yard work. I also try to watch the amount of sugar (I have some in my 1 cup of coffee every morning). I have one day, usually on the weekend, where I can eat whatever I want (within reason, I don't want to eat 5000 calories on that day, but that is the day, particularly in the summer, that I'll have a cocktail or two and cookout with friends). Mostly its just eating healthy foods and avoiding processed foods, lots of exercise, getting the right amount of sleep and drinking lots of water.

I got the water part down, I drink 2 gallons/day. I'm just getting started with the diet & exercise part. Are you saying cut 500 cals from my RDI? Or from what I normally eat? I have to admit, I tend to go over my RDI, but am getting better. What types of exercise do you recommend?

when you look at your diet calendar the last column is what I am talking about- it should read 500 or more with a green arrow pointing down (this factors in your exercise and your consumption. as far as exercise to start with anything that gets you moving. then you can work up to strength training, but make sure you do cardio too.

Ahh gotcha!!! I will work on that 500 under. I have been doing strength training with very little cardio (even tho I know I'm supposed to). I am purchasing an elliptical this week and am so excited to get started. Apparently, mother nature does not realize it's Spring here, so we still have snow & frigid temps. I will NOT be going outside to walk anytime soon :(

I actually need to step up my exercise plan- since i can't do jiu jitsu anymore (bad knees and doc doesn't want me to risk injuring them again), which was a huge calorie burn, I am going to have to work harder.
