So now that spring is finally here, I have spent the last few days doing a thorough evaluation of where I am at in this journey. I can tell you where I am not! I had hoped to be further along but I am not making the progress I am striving for. I have been a little absent from journaling for a few days as I have been working on this.
If one were to rely solely on calorie counting to make a correlation between calories in vs calories out, I should have lost 55 lbs since September 1, 2010. WRONG...I have only lost 18. It is not just simple math that gets the job done!!
I have gone back to my food journals and compared to my weight history to see where I have made the best progress so far. Fortunately, I analyze data for a living and have been able to dig in pretty deeply and make some conclusions.
I will say good bye to the large quantity of my much loved complex carbs of sweet potato, oatmeal, granola, whole grain bread for awhile that I have been eating. NO... I am not giving up any food totally, but the portion size and frequency of these will be significantly reduced. I intend to reduce the total carbs to no more than 100/day, total calories at 1500-1600 and my calories burned have been between 2500-2800 which gives me about -1000 or more per day. I have been on overload trying to control too many things. Now that I have "cleaned up" my foods pretty well, the sodium and cholesterol are well within my daily goal ranges on a consistent basis. I will stop making these a daily focus. I have no worries about protein, I always get plenty of that and will continue to have my shakes for occasional breakfast or when I am in a rush for something quick to curb any hunger. Fat will increase as I add in more avocados, sesame oil on my salads, and more nuts which are good fats and I will live with that at least for now. That little afternoon snack I have come to look for about 2pm is going to be cheese stick, almonds, a few dried cherries.
I have a 5k walk-a-thon coming up on May 1st which I am excited about. Snorkling trip to the Bahamas at the end of May which excites me even more.
Life is wonderful for me. I am truly blessed and incredibly thankful. I must take this gift of life and make the most of it!!
HERE I GO!!!
