My doctor has some concerns about my kidney function and changed one of my meds to help. I'm also going to reduce my protein intake. It will still be higher than average for most men but more appropriate for a man my age. I also plan to limit my protein intake to less than 40 grams per meal when possible.
Yesterday was a lift day. I have a larger than usual weight and body fat drop today. I ate way under my calorie goal, met my new protein goal, and did not meet some activity goals. 1311 kcal deficit // BF↓0.4% and is back in range // Sleep Goal met

Sorry you are having kidney function issues, I am too. Dr took me off of Rx anti-inflammatory and all nsaids 3 weeks ago.
Hopefully that will solve the problem. The idea of kidney diet, read vegan. Really not going to happen in this lifetime. I'm a carnivore or I'm fat. Never going back to fat.
It really sucks to find out what all has aches and pains!

Vegan/Vegetarian here. Forty grams of protein is my entire daily intake! I've trained and run 1/2 marathons on only 30-40 grams/day, and never had a problem. My personal belief is that the Protein Powder People are just pushing high protein requirements for marketing and sales purposes. Having been vegetarian for over 30 years, and not using powders/bars/shakes/fake meat products -- just real food -- I can tell you that I've stayed slim and energetic without consuming mega doses. If too much protein leads to kidney or colon problems, more people should speak up.

Kidney problems are so hard to deal with I have to watch my salt, oxalates, calcium, protein, and potassium plus had to give up soda and alcohol just because of kidney stones. hope reducing your protein will work for you wish you the best.

Thanks, JustBananas!!! I stopped eating vegan-style thirty-five years ago. I was a very active, healthy, and skinny factory worker by day and a sideman by night. Although I tried to eat plenty of protein as a vegan. I know now that I probably ate less than 40 grams of protein daily. I ate this way for about ten years before I decided I wanted to get bigger for work. I did get bigger and later I got fatter and played less guitar and raised a family. The family was the best thing I have ever done. I won't denounce any of that protein stuff. I will say I don't think that everyone should eat like a bodybuilder just because they go to the gym a couple of days a week...

Thanks, tr3vi28 for your comment. I hope the steps you have taken continue to work for you. I saw my sister-in-law suffer from kidney disease. She was on dialysis for years before she got her transplant. Then had to take many medications afterward to prevent rejection. I'm not saying that mega intake of protein is the cause of kidney disease. I do believe that it is not necessary for most people to consume three or four times the recommended amount of protein...
