My job is really flexible and the commute is annoying and expensive, so my boss has agreed to let me work from home half the time. Lucky, I know. But it turns out going to the office is good for one thing... my diet!

So my boss has been out of town for the last couple of weeks and since it's just me and him at the office, we both agreed that there was no point in me making the trek while he was gone. Well yesterday was my first day back in. Incidentally, I did really great on my diet. I don't think this a coincidence.

On the one hand, when I'm there I can't control the temptations. My boss might eat a delicious-smelling lunch at his desk or even bring chips and dip to share with me (which he did yesterday, and I'm very proud of myself for saying no!). He knows I'm on a diet but I've learned that I can't expect people to take that into consideration. It's not fair to them and it doesn't teach me to resist, which I will need to be able to do eventually, even if I shelter myself as much as possible.

So, on the other hand, I don't have food there that's mine, that I can cheat with and eat. I suppose if I got really desperate I could walk down to the store and buy something, but that hasn't happened yet. When I'm at home, I have a whole pantry-full of stuff that I could get into if I'm having a weak moment. I feel bad throwing it out because I don't want to waste food, and I will get back to eating it eventually. But why tempt myself? Maybe I can give it to a friend to hold for me for awhile. Heh, that makes it sound like a drug stash!

Anyway, I think my point was that going to the office is good for me, diet-wise. But it also sucks, is expensive, and it's always so damn cold in there and we can't control the thermostat. And it leaves me less time during the day to exercise. So maybe I'll continue to avoid it like the plague, but at least I have a bright side to look on when I do have to go.
