TXSnowman's Logboek, 20 mei 22

I was thinking this morning about the importance of habits. I had horrible habits, health-wise. I've had to create new better habits, and that's made a world of difference. I automatically make better (and less frequent) food choices without having to think about it. Likewise, I used to sit around doing not much all morning. Now I take a 10 mile bike ride between my first and second cup of coffee. Even this week, when I've been running grandkids to their school (a 1 hr round trip), I take my ride as soon as I return. I kayak or lift weights at mid-day and hike with my dog before sunset. A close family member who was an alcoholic once told me that the problem was that he could always find a reason to drink, but couldn't always find a reason not to. I find that I could easily go down that path would food and sloth. Its always easy to find an excuse to eat crap (feeling sad, feeling happy, celebration, dejection, etc) or to skip exercise (the weather's bad, I'm too busy, I'm too tired, someone else has something they want me to do). Habits are what's keeping me from falling down that rabbit hole.
