My mother called me the night of the shooting in Texas to tell me that the news had made her cry. She wanted to hold her grandchildren close and hug them tight, but since she's so far away she baked chocolate chip oatmeal cookies instead because she always loved them when she was a little kid and it made her feel closer to her grandkids. She asked me to hug them for her and give them her love. So yesterday I baked the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with the kids and told them the cookies were from their grandma who couldn't bring them the cookies herself even though she wanted to. I sent my mom this picture and told her the kids said thank you for the cookies. I've shed a few tears myself for all the families destroyed by this horrific tragedy.
