It's more than that, but I get what you mean. Ready meal for 1 from a well known UK supermarket £1 for 500g of food, 93g Carbs, 25g protein, 6.5g fat, 550 kCal. Cook from scratch, mince, whole meal pasta, tinned tomato, onion, peppers, carrot, herbs & spices - by my reckoning, about the same calories, but better macro scores and more filling because the veg is there. Costs around 75p when cooked bulk. OK, not a direct comparison because we have to be able to afford bulk cooking and freezing but those who can't are unfairly disadvantaged and those who don't ... well, such a shame

Wouldn't it be amazing if there was a simple nutritonal points schedule. I know it'll never happen...but a 1 would be zero nutritional value and a 100 would be the best. Then if food prices could be shown on that scale. So rather than $$/lb or $$/oz, it would be $$/nutritional points.

Fast food value menu - carb, carb, carb - Wendy's, Hardees - 4 for $4 - bread, bread, potatoes, drink. No low carb from Wendy's - you have to throw the bun away -$6.00! Low carb burger from Hardees - $7.00!

Yep, I think it is because they have to make it fresh and it breaks their routine. No warming light for my burger! p.s. that's why I always order extra pickle or no mayo or something when I have to eat out - they have to make it fresh.

Don't even get me started. It's insane and a huge part of why I grow vegetables all year round and have food gardens instead of landscaping. And of those insane prices 20% is wasted and thrown away by the average consumer.

LOL I just saw a documentary about that. Our whole food system is just broke, it doesn't even make sense anymore and is at the root cause of why we are all trying to lose weight and stay fit. Except you Mr 12% BF hahahaha. I seriously don't know how you do it and admire your consistency.

I agree. Its so hard to eat well. I could eat a cheap (delicious) meal from any of the several fast food or pizza joints in the small town I work in, but if I eat during the day, I eat a salad from one of three real restaurants. A spinach or romaine salad with grilled chicken will run me from $9 to $11. Its easy to understand why the world keeps getting larger.
