I seem to be feeling more comfortable with writing things down---still having trouble with eating sweets. I want to have more fruit that takes the place of them. Before, I could not remember a thing. Exercise is also something I want to keep going.

Just stick to the plan, and make small adjustments as you go. You'll make it. :)
It's a great idea to replace the sweets with fruit, just make sure to be aware of how many calories they have. Some fruits can dent your calorie kinda hard if you go nuts. :)
