Bad lunch and hidden calories!

Went to lunch with my colleagues, and they like to hit "fern bars" like Fridays/Chili's and Fuddruckers. Yesterday we went to Fudds. They tend to get appetizers, eat fat burgers with fries (like I used to do), and generally do things normal people do. I splurged on a fried chicken sandwich (buffalo), which I figured was ~500 calories, turns out it was just over 700. I did have veggies as a side, but still, my lunch including nibbling on their appetizers was about 1000 cals. After lunch and doing research, a grilled chicken is about 500 calories there, so my choice only cost me 200. Plus, a 1/3 lb burger there is only 560! Go figure... Lesson learned...So my dinner was a sensible protein shake. No worries as I was not hungry, still dealing with a lingering cold and the meds make me feel not hungry. Plus slamming a lot of water!

As for the hidden calories, I have Halls cough drops on my desk which i suck on all day. Turns out these lil' bastards are 15 cals each!! Thats 1% of my daily allowance. Not much, but stacks up quick. Need to invest in some sugar free versions of these things.

I tend to not post much on weekends as I am not paid to sit in front of a PC all day :-). Tomorrows plans are a desert cookout which is an Arabian tradition in cooler weather. Us westerners have made it a holiday thing, weird... Probably going to eat turkey burgers and have some beers. Kids are excited about it, me not so much. Worried about civil unrest and road closures.

Still bummed about my foot/Achilles issues. Turns out this is a slow healing injury, and I could be sidelined from walking for 6-9 months! Tried to ride my bike to work yesterday, and that hurt it more. I supposed you bend your foot upwards while pedaling.

Seems everyone here does a gratitude list, so here goes:
Grateful for my recent weight loss, even without power walking
Grateful for fatsecret support system
I am glad I am able to watch calories easier now, and that I dont feel starved or put out by it.
I love my family and my new kitty!
Glad I have a good job I enjoy

what you wrote just opened my eyes again...sometimes you really have absolutely no idea of how many calories is in a meal. i was quite surprised by your data about calroies in the meals. enjoy your day and stay on track :)

I have had a few of these experiences too. I try to wing it on my food choice at a fast food restaurant, go for what seems to be obviously the better choice, and it turns out I could have had a proper burger instead. Planning ahead when you know where you're going can fix this, or simply by asking the staff. Many times they have all the nutritional info right there. It can be a SHOCKER! I'm glad you managed to work around it, and I'm glad you still had a fun day out with the guys. We need that! :)
