It's getting easier to eat within my self-imposed limits. I planned on eating two pieces of the fried chicken I made this afternoon, but I was satisfied after one, so I stopped there. I have one last Hostess cupcake in the box I bought last week, but I'm genuinely much more interested in the fresh strawberries I bought today. I had started to think that 140+ pounds was my new reality, that I would keep getting bigger like most of my older relatives and the best I could hope for was to top out at 160 and not become diabetic. Now I'm seeing my overeating as a crutch I threw away, an unhealthy way of mourning for a part of my life that ended, and I'm feeling uncharacteristically optimistic about the future.
