Baileyrose85's Logboek, 28 feb 12

Another mile down today and my shins, calves and knees are killing me. I think I may have to hit the mall today and fork out some money on new shoes. I have had these ones for far too long (like 4 years, eek)and I think they have finally broken down. The scale only moved down a tenth of a pound this morning. Ugh. I know I am working to build muscle and as long as I am seeing a difference in my body, I shouldn't be too concerned with the slow loss but I am so much of an "instant gratification" type person that it kills me. I am working so hard. I got flaked on yesterday for bootcamp so I walked/jogged the canal trail with a coworker. I need to spend some more time in the gym weight lifting. I have been trying to get up and get to the gym earlier the last few weekdays but I have only managed an extra 15 minutes at this point. I am really looking forward to this weekend. I plan to spend plenty of time working out and trying to make noticeable progress.

oh you so deserve a new pair of shoes!!! What ever you do, don't get shin splints! They are horrid and so hard to heal! Happy running!

How come you can't go to bootcamp by yourself? I think you should try.. Hope you can find some great new shoes!

I have made up my mind and will be hitting the local fleet feet tonight. And bootcamp is just a video that we do at my MOH's house. Although I own the same video 1. I am far less motivated at my house and 2. I lent it to a coworker of mine... she isn't using it so I need to get it back. Bootcamp is on for today though! And when I am done, new shoes! Pretty stoked!

Ohhhhh I see - I thought it was this class that you went to - I was so confused! :) Makes sense now.. exercise like that is always more fun when you have someone to do it with!! Yay!! Enjoy your bootcamp and new shoes!!! Post pictures! (of the shoes, not the sweaty bootcamp...) :)

Besides the shoes, you may want to work on your form, by using a mid foot or fore foot strike when you run. This will lessen the impact on your body.

Comfy shoes are so important for runners. Even though you are just starting out, spoil yourself with a pair that you really love. If you feel good in them you will wear them more... ie, work out more. At least that's how it works for me.

Take care of your shins and knees you will need them for a long time...walking or stair climbing may be better for you or at least go slow, until you build up some strength..Good job though!
