Week 1 of counting calories... I resisted this approach for so long, which is odd since I am data driven and analytical in other areas of my life. I guess I always associated it with deprivation and eating greek salads. After many tears and trying and failing at the food addict abstinence approach to recovery I find myself here, on this app... It's strange to think how much self inflicted anxiety I caused by labeling foods as good and bad. Being abstinent may very well be the solution to addictive eating, but I don't think that telling myself I am an addict and powerless was going to work for me. I am already starting to see the positive effects this App could have. Seeing the nutritional composition of meals and not just single food items has opened my eyes to what it is I am really putting into my body, and how skipping lunch and dinner there could not undo the harm inflicted by excessive carb consumption at the expense of calories from nutrient diverse foods. So I'm hoping that numbers and targets and a more compassionate approach elicited from seeing what is I am truly fueling my body with on a daily basis will grant me the freedom to choose how I nourish myself from an empowered place. I'm excited to be here and wall this journey will all of you!
