I have discovered that I was not in ketosis. I don't know how long it's been, but I'm betting it was the sugar alcohols giving me the boot. I got that warm-bodied energy rush last night. I'm sitting here wide awake at 6:45 (got up at 6). Am hungry, but morning hunger is typical for me. Let's hope that it really IS the lack of sugar alcohols that are doing it for me now. God, I hope so...

I made a pumpkin bake last night, but am worried to have any as it has Splenda in it.

I could just make a couple of eggs...

How did you discover this? If you are using the strips DON'T. They are NOT a good indication of Ketosis, and are no longer recommended by Atkins. They are more likely to show dehydration than anything else. If you are eating your carbs at the correct level, you ARE in Ketosis. Morning hunger is fine, but if you get hungry later in the day it becomes an issue. Don't stress the Splenda. Most people don't have issues with it, and you are allowed 3 artificial sweeteners per day.

Ketostix are only accurate if your sure you are adequately hydrated, other wise the ketones are concentrated. Also if you are drinking large quantities of water the concentration of them can be thinned out in your urine. Maybe you've reached your ACE how many carbs are you consuming. You are right to think the sugar alcohols might be causing hunger craving they do in some people so if so stay clear of them for a minute then try to reintroduce them again and see if the effect is the same.

Yeah, I'm aware that there isn't a "level" of ketosis - you're either in or out of it. My hydration remains consistently at 8 8oz glasses of water a day. I thought that the ketosticks weren't working because they weren't changing color at all. But, honestly, I didn't feel like I was truly in ketosis, either. Somehow, I talked myself into thinking that I MUST have been in ketosis because of my carb intake (10-20/day), but after cutting out the sugar alcohol's, it took me my typical 3 days to get back into ketosis (started yesterday and I feel AMAZING again!). I peed on a stick yesterday just for the hell of it and sure enough, they were purple. Anyway, I don't use the ketosticks but every once in a while because I go more with how I'm feeling, my appetite, and the taste in my mouth. I definitely was NOT in ketosis, but am now. Thank god!!! I feel so good now! Just like I should! I can't believe it took me this long to connect the dots with the stupid SF crap. TWO MONTHS!!! Ugh. Thanks, guys. :)

To clarify... I went into ketosis yesterday, not gave up the sugar alcohols yesterday. :p

Jazzie, I have heard anecdotaly that SOME people do metabolize sugar-alcohols. I believe some Diabetes orgs recommend that they count 50%. So it is entirely possible that the sugar-alcohols were kicking you out of ketosis if you are one of the few.
