Six Days
Six days today I chose to change, for me
felt pains in my chest, that were not pains of me
Feeling them pinprick under my sternum
shooting spearing waves down my stanch belly
electric, lightening fast, painful like fire
scared awake my senses
Caused me to consider myself from deep within
The place we lock away truths we have known
but not accepted... until forced to peer inside
walking slowly past both mind and aching body
One thing was certain, this way to large body
had to be stressing, fat entombing areas fat should not be
The body as marvelous a wonder as wonders can be
finds no way to counter, repel or cast it away
our mind knows it has been screaming
for years now, stop wait, you can't do this
you're killing yourself...
we don't listen
On we eat on, unhealthy
comfort feeding life, devouring our days away
Our bodies grow, no choice or say in this peril
We guide this train right off the tracks
smashing our senses, dulling our pride
So today, six days now
life adjusted, wiser
I went shopping, ignored most of the aisles I loved
Stopped at the clearance Christmas candy
and smiled, snicker'd even
and pushed past with none in my cart, a small win
like playing some video game, seeking achievements to unlock
This achievement is life, my life, I need this for me
easy so far, surprisingly so
enjoying the new family I have met
here in this chat blog, friends
yet, only found seeking
... the calories of a chicken breast.
6 days, 11 pounds gone... little arrow down!
