kingkeld's Logboek, 13 mrt 12

Another night where I wake up way too early. :/ This is really tedious. I wake up, typically around 2 AM, and I simply don't fall asleep again. I get up, go to the rest room, go back to bed, try to sleep, think, wonder about things, then in the end I get up and just wait for Wife to wake up, so we can get ready for work together.

Today, though, as I was awake and ready to get up already at 3:15 AM, I decided to get on the exercise bike. I did a full hour, watching a movie, and burned (supposedly) 500 calories. Nice. I feel good and accomplished after doing it. I love that feeling - it's very addictive. Which makes me wonder:

How come I have trouble getting on the exercise bike when I really like doing it, and I feel so great afterwards, and on the other hand it's so easy to eat wrong when I know it will make be feel bloated and bad both physically and mentally afterwards? Why isn't it the other way around? It's strange.

Today's weigh-in, which was AFTER exercise, showed a loss of 1100 grams since yesterday - the weekend indulgences are coming off. I'm glad they are, I feel bad about not doing well enough Sunday. I hope I will learn to do this better one day. I hate that I have to fight to do good. It should be a normal, common sense thing. There are just so many temptations out there.

Yesterday, I was experimenting doing home made ice cream. This time I did it more like regular ice cream, to see if this changes the consistency of it. My first experiments doing it low fat came out hard as a rock after freezing. This was smoother, but still got very hard after a few hours in the freezer. It tasted amazing though, and was still significantly lower in calories than anything you can buy (except my super expensive low calorie ice cream that is just not worth the money any longer). Once I have a good, working recipe I will of course share it. :)

Today, I'm rocking with the kids after work. It's gonna be fun. I do have to have a serious talk about them about practicing. We have very few times left before they are gonna perform live, and I simply don't see them being ready for it yet. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to cancel on them, but they need to know that they need to practice hard to make it. That, and we don't have a singer. I gotta work that one out. Maybe my Black Peanut singer could help out?

Work is still working me a lot. I think this IS one of the reasons for my lack of sleep. I hate that. I don't want to worry about work, but there is a LOT to do, and now that the surgery is coming closer, I start being concerned about that too. I simply don't know how to find the time to be out on sick leave for a few weeks. All my work is time-sensitive, and it doesn't match well with surgery. Anyways, it'll work out in the end. It always does, right? :)

I had a good talk with Wife about it all. She's so sweet, and so understanding. She even offered to help me if there was anything she could do. Unfortunately, there is not. However, she's told me to just focus on work and let her to the "home base stuff", to give me a little more space. I can't put words for how much I appreciate her.

I think I'll have to put in a few hours extra every day for a while, getting things done and finished. I need this.

Today, I'm thankful for:
- Getting on the bike for a full hour!
- Chickenfoot Live on DVD. Sammy Hagar rocks! :)
- Morning Coffee.
- Wife and I having a good talk this morning.

Take care, my friends. Happy Tuesday! Life is good!

A very "subdued" journal today KingKeld.... Probably due to lack of sleep and everything else going on in your life, at the moment. I do wish I could give you some helpful advice on the sleeping issue - but apart from cammomile tea, lavender on your pillow, pad next to your bed so you can write stuff down, being careful not to eat heavy food before going to bed (I am sure you know all those)... I have no suggestions. Oooh a relaxing holiday in a warm climate - LOL, I guess we could all do with that :-)

Subdued Kingkeld. That IS something. Must have to do with the early waking. Good luck today at work, Keld,

I agree - getting going on the exercise each workout is half the battle! Once we get going it seems so much easier doesn't it, and so much better afterward? At least you can recognize that and hopefully it'll help you to hop on the bike or whatever you choose to do more often.

I sometimes have that problem of waking very early and not being able to go back to sleep. People laugh at me for my solution. I sing (not out loud) 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall. It is so repetious that I get bored and fall asleep. But at the same time I still have to concentrate on which number am at and my mind can't stray. To date I have never gone down lower than 50. It works for me.

I agree with Earthlady about your 3rd paragraph...I think it's the question of the ages for so many of us...and isn't it part of the reason we're where we are weight-wise? If we could solve that riddle, we could all be rich! I've been thinking lately about how we, especially the older generation, as kids, used to just play...outside, riding bikes, tag, kickball, jumping rope, etc, and it was a blast! We never wanted to stop! Why do we lose that? And what if we could get that back? I think we view exercise as "work" when, if it was "play" we would be eager to do it...Anybody else have a thought? As for the kids not being ready for their gig...a bit of unsolicited advice...Sure, talk to them, warn them...but ultimately? Allow them to fail, if that's what happens. I have very strong opinions about our entitlement society, and I think we would all do well to allow room in life for some lessons on the importance of hard work, and not getting a star for just showing up...it's getting so bad now that people think they don't even have to show up to get their star! (end of rant) I guess the sleep thing is universal...I get it too. My solution is to think about boring stuff...or sometimes I say my prayers...sometimes nothing works, so I just get up and start my day early...like you. Have a great Tuesday, friend...

Allow them to fail..they will learn much more from this..just like us. (Hurrah for weekend indulgences and slacking off on practice)

I always sleep better when I've had a great workout.. so maybe picking up the intensity of your workouts just a tad will help you sleep better?? That's the only other thing I can think of - hate that feeling when you just can't make your brain shut off.. Also, I asked my sister about homemade ice cream recipes and she is no help - she has only done the custard-type ice cream which is NOT good for you.. :)

Hey King, so busy at work I dont have time to read your journals sometimes until the next day. Anyway, for homemade ice cream, I found it necessary to let it thaw 15-30 minutes to get the consistency right for service after it has been in the freezer. I found this in the past when making full fat ice cream, and now with my low fat yogurts. The store bought stuff has fillers or chemicals that make it not get rock hard (gelatin).
