Had a church commitment this AM, so no outdoor walking for me....or the doggies.

Headed off to the gym after the work and tried an elliptical for the very first time! The first brand I just didn't "get" and couldn't get the workout started - talk about feeling embarrassed! But the 2nd brand FINALLY got started....the touch-pad needed a harder, longer touch to it and so I did a 10-minute workout that really worked me out! It was a long 10 minutes (plus the 3-minute cool down). But I liked it! That, combined with some weight machines, is my workout for the day.

I'm taking my calories expended from my HRM number and cutting it in half, as usual. The elliptical was set to give me a HR of 120-125 (wanted to take it easy until I knew what I was signed on for) but my HRM gave me numbers well into my max training range in the low 150's. It FELT like the 150's and not the 120's.

You did great - 10 minutes on your first try! Of course you are in great shape. When my HR gets to 136 I feel like I'm going to pass out.

Buffy, about 10-20 years ago, when I'd do a Stairmaster routine (VERY occasionally), I'd run my HR right on up to 170-180 or a bit higher. I was "young" and didn't think for a moment that I should actually calculate my training rate and max. rate. But when I started this WOE this time, I thought, just maybe, "at my age," I ought to see where my supposed max heart rate is these days and where I should be as far as training. So.....while I do feel just fine, huffing and puffing aside, I try to respect the calculations now. Maybe I'll remember to ask a doctor about that, if I ever get around to making an appointment!

Sandy when I belonged to a gym I preferred using the eliptical rather than a tread mill any day, but it's really hard to get started. Good Job !

Wow - Way Cool! I know, that's an old time saying, but very appropriate! Brave woman, going to a gym in the first place...I really felt you pain when the machine didn't work for you, but, in the end you kicked some butt...hopefully not yours totally...! 10 minutes was a wise choice, not a good idea to over-do & injure something. If memory serves me correctly, that was about ALL I could manage on mine when I first got it. Ramp it up slow & see how it goes. LOL, I just had a giggle as I remember the hardest part was keeping my feet on it...I am SO un-coordinated, that was really a struggle...along with all the huffing & puffing (Oyyye, was there a lot of that...actually still is)! Good job!!
