Positives: Today officially dropped 30 pounds since August 4th. 292 to 262. Blood sugar well controlled, blood pressure normal, most blood work normal and looking forward to December blood work to see what my numbers are. And I completed my diabetes education course this morning. So yay me!

Not so positive: joined a Keto FB group and suddenly feel a great deal of pressure to eat no more than 7 carbs each meal. Pressure coming from me, not the group. The stories of people losing large amounts of weight in a short period of time are not inspiring me, rather I am feeling a bit discouraged. I realize this is a ridiculous feeling. I am doing great! Its interesting, reading logs on FS doesn't make me feel that way. So I think I will ignore the FB Keto things for a while and continue to listen to my body. When I do that, I find I level out at under 50 total carbs and typically under 30 net.

I have a few questions that perhaps you guys could help answer:

1) What is a good source of cocoa nibs

2) Can you recommend a good source of low carb recipes that don't rely on organ meats (bleh), offal, or salami type things


My new favorite treat (not for everyone I know): 1 cup of Fage 5% yogurt, sweeten with a little stevia, mix in 1 tablespoon cocoa nibs and drizzle a 1/4 tsp of strawberry balsamic vinegar. Oh my...(found a olive oil/vinegar store on a trip last weekend to Winter Park Fl. Oh goodness.....)

Go you! I find stories like yours to be super inspiring! I put a lower carb recipe for a Turkey Shepherd's Pie that might be up your alley. Since sharing this recipe, I have decided that lean ground beef (95/5) is better than the turkey. Congratulations on your accomplishments!

The internet has thousands of recipes for any WOE that you might like to try.. I buy cocoa nibsw at Sprouts,

Your diabetes education program must have taught you a lot about balancing your diet. In my opinion, a diet that is restrictive is not nutritionally sound and requires attention that borders on obsession.

you are doing great you don't need to do keto super low carb to lose weight and eat healthy. low cab is very livable lifestyle and it seems very productive for you seeing your progress. it is not a race, it is learning a lifestyle that works for you.

Sounds like you're in the wrong FB group. Some of them can be so "elitist". Try the "Butter in My Coffee" group if you want a good supportive bunch of folks. You're doing great!

My favorite advice/recipe site is run by doctors: dietdoctor.com. They have weekly meal plans complete with shopping lists. Many of the features are free.

I stopped almost all the FB Keto pages. The information is frequently wrong and contradictory. I think the best thing I have learned - keto for one year, 50 pounds down, husband off most diabetic meds, etc. - is that keto is a tool. If you eat more fat, you are less hungry. This will keep your caloric intake low. It's not magic. BTW: GREAT JOB! I love what Baskington said: not a race, learning a lifestyle. Heck, I cheated all weekend. I needed a break! (lobster poutine. OMG Amazing). Today, back on the wagon. Works for me, find what works for you. They aren't you.
