I need to know if anyone else is experiencing this. Tonight, I am at the gym on the elliptical (35 minutes). At about 10 - 12 minutes in my feet (specifically my toes) start to go numb. It starts with the baby toe and gradually moves to the 4th toe, the 3rd and so on. By the time I get to my 30 minutes and 5 minute cool down, I am in so much pain, I have tears in my eyes. Sometimes if I switch and do the elliptical backwards, it helps for a few minutes, but not tonight. Of course, I refuse to quit because I NEED this and I am one of those weirdos who actually enjoys the elliptical! After I was done, I walked for 2 miles and it took about 4 laps (about 1/3 mile) for my toes to stop hurting. I have new shoes and they are not tied too tight. I know that with running/walking,we need to replace our shoes about every 300 miles. Almost two years ago I did have a large neuroma removed from my right foot and it is not as bad as the left, but I have pain and numbness in both. Any suggestions my FS friends?

Numbness means nerve in my book. Is it only when your on the elliptical? I wonder if how your feet are placed on the elliptical if it is causing pressure on a nerve, since it is relieved soon after with walking. Maybe going backwards at first alleviates some of that pressure that is causing pain. Do you think it is a muscle building issue? Like, when I started walking I would get the worst pain that ended up being chin splints. After doing the repetive motion of walking at a good pace, building up it resolved. Remember I am a nurse and walk a lot but it was the faster pace that caused it for me, till I became accustomed to it. If I run across a Doc that I trust this week end, I will run it by him.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/metatarsalgia/DS00496/DSECTION=symptoms This is what I've got, which sounds similar. Developed it after I had to do PT after a knee replacement. Just in the right foot. Docs suggested orthotics, but I can wear thick socks and my sneaks and it doesn't hurt. Hurts most when I walk barefoot. But let Phyllis talk with a doc. Could be a number of different things.

I get that when I run, usually happens around the 3 mile mark. I spoke to my Chiropractor and a running guru, they both recommended putting these little foam blocks right behind the ball of your foot. You tape it in place. They make them and sell them but I made my own. It works, from what I understand it takes the pressure off the forward part of your foot.

Got a link showing what those babies look like? I can't seem to get a visualization of it. Would like to see them. Thanks.

MWell- I am going back to my doctor for this issue and will mention that. I did try two pair of socks which helps slightly but was not much relief. ClassicRocker - what babies do you want to see?
