Did a great 3.25 mile run/walk this morning! I'm starting to like the running. I would run 10 minutes and then walk 3 minutes. Did that for 43 mins with 13 mins walking time. Walked at 3.5 mph and ran at 5.5 mph.

I started trying out running last week, because walking wasn't doing it for me anymore. I mean I could walk and walk and walk but I was barely sweating or even breathing heavy. Which is awesome as I remember back in April there was one hill on my walk that I'd always have to slow down for -- now I don't even notice it. Plus, I think I've got enough weight off of my body to try some longer distances. Finally, I've really decided that I need to run because I read on the interwebs about how the best way to get rid of visceral (belly) fat is through cardio. Well, I know my swims count as cardio, but all of my other workouts were yoga, pilates and walking. I know walking is cardio, but as I stated previously, it just wasn't doing it for me anymore. So, I had to turn it up a notch. Now my goal is to get in 5 cardio sessions of at least 45 mins a week.

But the worst thing about doing the running is that I don't stop sweating for up to 1.5 hours afterwards. I know that means I'm still in calorie burning mode, but really...I hate being all sweaty between my boobs and down my back at work. It's just gross. :-) I don't get that sweaty when I swim. I think because the pool is cooling me down. I sweat for about 30 mins after my swim. Does that mean I need to crank up my swim a notch??? Hmmmmm....I need to think about that.

LOL - your comment about boob sweat made me laugh! I hate that feeling too - I work out in the mornings then ho into a cold shower to cool things down! In the summer I could just enjoy the extra burn but now that I am back at school - the whole glowing thing is not as appreciated as one might think! Good for you on the running - fantastic exercise. I would love to be a runner - long lean bodies ahhh, my whole family runs - except me! my grandfather even ran the Boston marathon in his late 50's - as for the swimming there is some research showing that fat burn is actually slowed with swimming because your body is cold and wants to kep the fat for extra insulation - but who really knows there are different studies out each week! Keep it going you are doing fantastic!!

Nice job with the running! Have you incorporated any strength training into your routine? Building muscle will help you burn more fat around the clock, not to mention it will make you look awesome & feel strong.
