My abs are really starting to pop out...especially upper abs. More veins in the lower ab area, which isnt particularly appealing, but a sign that Im getting fitter :)

Wow, great job! If that is a up to date photo on your profile you are looking good, and if is not then your abs must be looking very good! Keep it up!!

CJT1217: I dont do the usual stuff. First and foremost, I focus on cutting carbs & fats, and burning more energy. I workout my abs once a week heavy to failure just like any other muscle (then maybe another time lighter & higher rep during the week). I do a "core" day during which I do heavy stiff-leg deadlifts, HEAVY machine crunches, side bends, cable body twists, then mix in either lying & suspended leg raises, weighted back raises, bicycle kicks, lying vertical kicks, and anything else to mix it up. I go to failure anywhere between 6-12 reps. Its hard & burns after, but I dont workout...I train ;)

That's a good ab routine! I've been meaning on adding more resistance to get the abs to pops out. I've only been toning as opposed to building.

What most people do and advocate. Whats the point in just having a strong upper body if the core is weak. Its the most important factor after legs and def the most overlooked.

Ya I've been training for how I'm tested, so I pump out a lot of pushups and crunches to meet my job's physical fitness standards. As far as legs go, all my trail running and hiking definitely takes care of that, although, I definitely realize now that I've neglected stretching for far too long.

Good work man. I can honestly say that it has been years since I have done an actual sit-up. My core strength is tested and trained through complex body movements, instability, and static holds that vary from day to day. I am also all about working the abs like you work any other body part. It is no different than back, legs, chest - you can train abs for strength, endurance, and hypertrophy. I think that tends to get overlooked at times with high rep little resistance.
