Hey all! I was reading something the other day, and thought I'd share.
Super interesting.
(disclaimer! This won't be totally, verbatum, 100% accurate because I'm going from memory)...but the gist of this study was:
Ethnic populations all over the world have their own cuisine, ways they process food, foods they pair together. This is pretty much summed up by any "themed" restaurant you know about. (Mexican, Thai, Indian, Italian, South African, Eastern European, etc) It turns out that the pairing and fermenting of foods for each culture does it in a way that allows the most nutrients to be absorbed and also counteract any negative effects some people experience after eating certain things. (ie, something acidic or with enzymes helps to break down other harder to digest foods. ex: lemon juice, sour cream, sauerkraut; *most often this job is done by a dressing or sauce)
There are populations in the Orient that live on high elevation plateaus, where most people would have some negative effects from the altitude. A study was done looking into why and they found that over time the locals' blood had adapted to compensate for the different level of oxygen they were getting.
Each region of the world has different food available to them.
Could it be possible that each person has an ancestry that naturally predisposes their body to be happiest on a specific type, and preparation, of foods? I mean, we know that physical appearance, blood, allergies, and where you put on weight can be genetic. Why not the way you process food, and what is best for you, too?

Feeling better today! But ahhh man, the past few days I've been doing my best to sabotage the weight loss I've reached. Sugar cravings, carb cravings, never feeling full, head is all over the place...BUT I recognized that I was using eating to deal with some anxiety that cropped up, and before it was too late (and I had eaten my way back up on the scale). I started running again in place of the light rep weights and that seems to have slowed things down a bit. Goal for today is make it through the sugar and carb cravings that'll be raging!

I can't tell what is going on. On high days I don't go over 1500 calories, not over-indulging in any carbs or sugar...is there a point when you hit a plateau, and only increasing exercise will burn off the rest? I definitely still have plenty of body fat that can come off.
